2022: 167.7 Million Migrants Were Part Of Labor Force

The total number of international migrants that were part of the labor force of appointment countries in 2022 is estimated at 167.7 million people. This is evidenced by the data of the report by the International Labor Organization (ILO) under the heading “International Labor Migration: Global Acingum Data MOT”.

According to ILO, the total number of international migrants in the world in 2022 reached 284.5 million people.

The share of working age (15 years and older) accounts for 255.7 million people, while the total number of migrants who were part of the labor force of the destination in 2022 increased to 167.6 million people. Of these, 102.7 million were men and 64.9 million – women. This is more than 30 million more than in 2013, and growth was observed mainly from 2013 to 2019.

Most Migrant Workers are concentrated in countries with a high level of income, which accounted for 68.4 percent of the total (114.7 million), 17.4 percent (29.2 million) in countries with an income level above average, 10.9 percent – in countries with income level below average and 3.3 percent – in countries with low income.

“Migrant workers are indispensable in solving the problem of labor deficit in the world and in the assistance of economic growth,” said General Director of MOT Gilber F. Ungbo.
