In Nigeria, rich in oil and natural gas, African country has detected 50 enterprises used to illegally process raw oil.
The representative of the Safe Delta operation, carried out in the Niger Delta, John Okke, said the army continues operations against oil smugglers in the region.
According to him, during the operation, 50 illegal oil refining enterprises were identified, a large number of stolen oil were seized.
The growth of oil theft in Nigeria negatively affects the country’s economy.
Nigerian Senator Nvoko said that in 2023 the country’s losses amounted to more than $ 3 billion due to an increase in the theft of oil and attacks on pipelines in the country.
The detected Nigeria oil reserves amount to approximately 37 billion barrels, that is, 3.1 percent of the world stocks.
Nigeria, which is among the 15 largest countries in the world in raw oil production, is the 8th country with the largest oil reserves in the world and occupies 6th place in terms of oil exports.
