6th meeting of constant joint mechanism of Turkey, Finland and Sweden took place in Helsinki

In the capital of Finland, Helsinki, the sixth meeting of a constant joint mechanism created as part of a tripartite memorandum signed by Turkey, Finland and Sweden on June 28, 2022 before the NATO summit.

According to the statement of the Communications Department of the President of Turkey, the first meeting that took place after the adoption of Finland and Sweden in NATO was chaired by the Senior Advisor to the President of Turkey on Foreign Policy and Security of the Akifa Kylych ambassador. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Buraku Akchapar, Deputy Minister of Justice of Turkey, Hursshit Yildishm, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Internal Affairs, National Defense and National Intelligence.

The Finnish delegation was headed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the YUKK Salovaar, and the Swedish – adviser to national security at the office of Prime Minister Henrik Landerholm.

During the meetings, the parties discussed exhaustive assessments of the current situation and measures that must be taken in the coming period for the implementation of obligations recorded in a tripartite memorandum indicating specific steps.

The delegations of Finland and Sweden said that this process allowed to better understand the sensitivity and expectation of Turkey, especially in the fight against terrorism.

The next meeting will take place in Stockholm

During the meeting, an agreement was reached on strengthening cooperation between relevant institutions at all levels on issues discussed as part of the mechanism.

The parties emphasized the importance and continuity of the mechanism and agreed to hold the next meeting in Stockholm.

During the meeting and bilateral meetings, the parties also exchanged views on the issues of European security architecture, the NATO Washington Summit, the Russian-Ukrainian war, gas sector and recent monstrous attacks on the Holy Quran in Europe.
