The 73rd session of the European Regional Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) is held in Astana.
The session is attended by ministers of healthcare and other high-ranking persons of 53 Member States in the European region, as well as representatives of international organizations.
The sessions discuss issues related to the protection of human health, with the improvement of sanitary and hygienic conditions in the member states of the regional committee, as well as the main problems of the European region in the field of healthcare.
The opening of the events was performed by the General Director of the World Health Organization Tedros Adkhan Goebreesus and the European Regional Director of the organization Hans Henry Klyiga. It was noted that in 2023 it marks the 75th anniversary of the creation of WHO and 45 years since the signing of the Alma-Ata declaration for primary health care. Dedicated to the health and well -being of the population of the European region, the session will provide great opportunities for discussing progress in the field of medical care, global achievements in the field of public health over the past 75 years and the exchange of experience in solving future problems.
This year’s session is devoted to discussing the digitalization of healthcare in the region of the region, the widespread use of artificial intelligence, the use of modern ICT achievements and technological solutions in medical education, improving the working conditions of social and medical personnel, increasing physical activity of the population, as well as work in the field of modernization hospitals. It was noted that in the framework of the preparation of further steps for the next two years, actions will be planned to overcome existing and new challenges to ensure the health of citizens in the region.
The session will continue its work with discussions on various topics within the framework of panel sessions and will end on October 26th.
The regional committee is the highest governing body for 53 WHO member states in the European region. It determines the areas of activity in the field of improving health and sanitary and hygienic living conditions of people.
