Chinese and Singapore scientists revealed a new type of genipavirus that can infect people and animals. The new species is called the Virus “Lanoy” (Langya Henipavirus, Layv), it is transmitted to a person from wild animals, according to the Chinese information portal “Penpai”.
According to Chinese scientists, 35 Shandong and Henan infected in Chinese provinces were identified.
Researchers note that the new pathogen is similar to the NIPS virus, but there have not yet been detected by fatal outcomes or severe course of the disease. Its most common symptoms are fever, weakness, cough, anorexia, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and headache. It has not yet been possible to determine whether the “Lanah” is transmitted from man to person. In the animal world, the virus is most often detected in shoes, and antibodies were also revealed to it in goats and dogs ..
To date, it has been known about two types of genipaviruses that are able to infect people – the NIPA virus and Hendra virus. The disease can occur both in asymptomatic form and in the form of a severe respiratory infection with death. The natural tank of these two viruses in the wild are bats.
