Samsun (AA) – in the Delta of the Kyzylyrmak River in north of Turkey this year, about 160 thousand waterfowls were overwhelmed.
This was reported by Anadolu by Erjias Yavuz, an employee of the Ornithological Center of the University “May 19” in Turkey.
According to him, annually in January, February and March around the world, the organization for the protection and monitoring of water-bobble lands with the head office in the Netherlands simultaneously conducted waterfowl.
accounting is carried out after the cessation of migration movements of birds and allows you to determine the distribution of the bird population, he noted.
“That is, we want to determine in which area and what kind of birds are located. As part of this organization, we keep records under the auspices of the Main Directorate of Nature Protection and National Parks under the Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry of Turkey,” said Yavuz, Adding that the Ornithological Scientific Center at the University “May 19” is responsible for the Black Sea region.
Javuz said that the Kyzylyrmak River Delta is one of the 37 water-bombed lands in the Black Sea region.
“In the Kyzylyrmak delta high species diversity and the number of waterfowl. We found that this year about 160 thousand waterfowl in the Kyzylyrmak deltas,” he said.
According to him, these are geese, gagars, kuliki, ducks and storks. Yavuz clarified that annually the accounting is kept in the same area.
“among the species that we noticed most this year, there were Kryakva, Lysukha and Chirk. We identified 57 species of waterfowl, wintering in the Kyzylyrmak delta,” the ornithologist continued.
About 2 million waterfowls are detected annually on about 160 water-bells of Turkey, he said.
The movement of waterfowl depends on the weather in the north
Javuz said that the number of birds wintering in the Kyzylyrmak delta is annually ranging between 70-200 thousand
“The movement of waterfowl in Turkey depends on the weather in the north. If the weather is severe in the north, birds need to go south. Then we see more birds and species, but in the softer years the birds do not prefer prolonged migrations,” – explained the employee of the scientific center.
Kyzylyrmak Delta is one of the water-boloty land, where the largest number of species are observed when counting in the middle of winter in Turkey, he emphasized.
“7 percent of species and populations found in Turkey live in the Kyzylyrmak delta. Lake Egirdir and Beishehir are much larger, and although in these areas there are also a lot of waterfowl, if you compare the size of these lakes with the Kyzylyrmak delta, the delta lives much A more significant number of waterfowl, ”he added.
