The Supreme Commissar of the UN Human Rights, Volker Türk, sharply criticized acts on the desecration of the Koran, which were committed in a number of European countries.
“I categorically reject the disrespectful and aggressive acts of burning the Holy Koran, primarily those that provoke violence and split,” he said.
The Turk spoke on an interactive dialogue on the topic “Driving forces, indigenous causes and impact on human rights of religious hatred” organized as part of the 54th session of the UN HRC.
He recalled that at the July session of the HRC, an emergency special showing was carried out in connection with attacks on the sacred book of Muslims. The Supreme Commissioner stated that despite this, in a number of countries, actions are still being made on public burning the Koran.
