Afghanistan under threat of mass hunger

After the capture of Kabul “Taliban” more and more residents of Afghanistan face daily risk to stay without work, banks are still closed, prices for products grow, reports Reuters.

People constantly worry about how to provide themselves with food and pay for removable accommodation.

After the drought season, the inhabitants of the countryside were threatened by mass hunger and were forced to leave the cities to try to survive in tents and temporary asylums. International humanitarian agencies stated that the suspension of commercial flights to Afghanistan made it impossible to deliver drugs and other assistance.

Fast promotion of militants through provincial cities led to the fall in the value of the local Afghan currency and accelerate the rise in prices for basic food. Flour, oil and rice went up by 10-20 percent in just a few days, residents cannot access their bank savings. Due to the closure of Western Union offices, remittances from abroad are stopped.

Head of the Country Risk Department in Asia in Fitch Solutions Anvita bass believes that in the near future there will be a serious crisis in the country. She argues that Afghan’s currency, which has already fallen in more than seven percent this month, can fall even more. The reason is that most of the state’s foreign assets was frozen to prevent the Taliban to access them. The expert believes that now the economy of Afghanistan is in front of the risk of hyperinflation.
