Russian troops began to restore the old ones and dig new trenches in the north of Crimea shortly before the official announcement of the surrender of Kherson to Ukraine. This was announced by OSINT analyst Banjamin Pittet on his Twitter account.
“I think this topic will surprise you. Russia is digging new trenches in the north of Crimea,” he wrote and published satellite pictures, which see fresh trenches near the Dzhanka checkpoint between the Kherson region and the Crimea, as well as near Armyansk in the northwest of Crimea. Protective fortifications are being built in the Kherson region, in the area of the village of Novotroitskoye on the way to Genichesk, where the regional occupation administration had previously moved.
According to the analyst, the existing fortifications are restored in the area of the Chongar checkpoint. This is evident when comparing satellite shots taken in August and October. “Other positions are visible throughout the region. They are building a fortress,” says Banjamin Pittet.
According to sources, Crimea is not the only place whose defense is strengthened. Since October, the Wagner PMC has been building defensive structures in the Luhansk region, and recently the UK Ministry of Defense found them around the occupied Mariupol.
