Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad intends to enter into a pre-election race for the post of head of state, the Associated Press agency reported on Wednesday with reference to Iranian television.
Television showed frames on which Ahmadinejad, accompanied by supporters, visited the registration center in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, where all the necessary formalities have completed.
In 2017, Ahmadinejad tried to take part in the president’s elections, but then he was discharged by the head of the Islamic Republic of Ali Hameni, and later his candidacy was removed by the Council of the Guardians of the Constitution, which forms the final list of presidential election participants.
AR notes that in recent years, Ahmadinejad tried to change the image of the radical, speaking with more moderate centrist positions. Hameni has already stated that he is not against the participation of Ahmadinejad in the elections, but his candidacy can again block the clerk of the Constitution.
Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013.
Registration of candidates intending to take part in the elections of the President of Iran, began in the country on Tuesday. At the same time, the current head of state Hassan Rukhani will not be able to run again due to restrictions on the time of stay in power.
Presidential elections in Iran are scheduled for June 18.
