The famous AIA-Sofya mosque in Istanbul, whose age has 1486 years, over time has received serious damage as a result of earthquakes and various events, and therefore its restoration was repeatedly carried out.
About this in an interview with Anadol, the architect Imanan Sarah, a member of the scientific council created to restore the AIA-Sofia mosque.
He noted that the last comprehensive restoration of the temple was carried out by the Gaspara and Giuseppe brothers during the reign of the Sultan Abdul-Medzhita.
“The largest restoration in the Ottoman period was carried out by Mimar Sinan during the reign of Selim II. Mimar Sinan in a certain sense” extended his life “to this monument, thanks to which he has survived to the present day. Today, after a comprehensive restoration conducted by the Fossati brothers, Fossati In1848-1850, we are located on the eve of the second comprehensive restoration of AIA-Sofya, ”he said.
According to him, before the start of restoration work, the “digital double” “AIA-Sofia” will be created.
“AIA-Sofia’s digital double” has been prepared. In the near future, plans, types and cuts will be ready. Actual comprehensive restoration will begin immediately after the completion of these work, ”the architect said.
He noted that the restoration process itself will take a lot of time. The architect emphasized that during the restoration the necessary consultations will be held regarding each detail of the AIA-Sofya Cathedral.
Imanan Sarah added that the Main Department of the Funds has already announced a tender for work.
“This monument is the property as Turkey, like the whole world,” he said.
The architect said that during restoration work the Aiya-Sofya Mosque will be open to worship and visit.
