One of Istanbul’s famous attractions – Aiya -Sofu mosque in four years visited about 25 million people.
The cathedral for 916 years was considered the largest temple in the world, and after the conquest of the city in 1453, the seventh Sultan Mehmet II became the main mosque in the Ottoman state. In 1934, this attraction of Istanbul received the status of the museum.
The State Council of Turkey in July 2020 canceled the government decree of 1934 on the assignment of Aiya-Sofya status of the museum. Then President Tayyip Erdogan signed a decree according to which Ayia-Sofya again opened to worship Muslims.

Deputy Mufti Istanbul Akhmet Aktgorkoglu told Anadol that the Aiya-Sofya mosque is one of the most important symbols of Istanbul’s conquest.
Aktookoglu explained that the Aiya-Sofya mosque received great demand from local and foreign tourists after turning into a mosque.
“Aiya-Sofia mosque adopted about 25 million visitors for 4 years, starting on July 24, 2020, when it was open for worship. We are constantly accepting many local and foreign guests in the Ayia-Sofya mosque,” he said.
