Russia considers the beginning of the discussion of the project on the entry of Armenia to the EU as the beginning of the country’s exit from the EAEU.
“Armenia will have to choose between participation in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union, these two organizations are” incompatible “taking into account the free circulation of goods, services, capital on their territory.”
This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Russia Alexei Overchuk.
“The EAEU and the EU are incompatible. Both associations suggest the absence of customs borders and freedom of movement of goods, services, capital and labor,” said Overchuk, noting that the bill “On the launch of the process of joining the European Union” put Armenia before the relevant choice .
According to him, if Yerevan decides to “turn off relations with the EAEU,” he will most likely receive a visa-free regime with the EU, depopulation, increasing energy and food prices, export reduction by 70-80%, and the country’s population will lose income and work.
membership in the EAEU is a privilege, and joining the EU is comparable to buying a Titanic ticket due to current economic and social problems in the bloc, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister believes. He also doubted the honesty of the authors of the bill in relation to the inhabitants of Armenia and other EAEU countries due to the lack of a clause on the termination of membership in this association.
On January 9, the Armenian government approved the draft law on the entry of the republic into the European Union. The adoption of the law will start this process.
