Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that in 2025 the city of Lachin will receive the status of the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
“Lachin was under the Armenian occupation for almost 30 years. During the occupation, the city was completely destroyed. Today the Lachin was rebuilt, and a new life began here,” Aliyev said.

According to the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan, Aliyev spoke at the summit of the leaders of the CIS countries, which is held in the capital of Russia Moscow.
In his speech, Aliyev recalled that on November 11-22 in Azerbaijan the 29th conference of the parties (COP 29) of the UN Climate Change Framular Convention will be held. He emphasized that the unanimous decision of almost 200 countries on holding this conference in Baku testifies to the respect of the international community to Azerbaijan.
Speaking about the contribution of Azerbaijan to the defeat of Nazi Germany in the Second World War, Aliyev said: “About 700 thousand people from Azerbaijan, whose population at that time amounted to 3 million 400 thousand people, went to the front. 350 thousand Azerbaijanis died in the war. 130 Azerbaijanis were awarded the title “Hero of the Soviet Union.”
Aliyev drew attention to the fact that next year the Azerbaijani city of Lachin will receive the status of the cultural capital of the CIS.
