After the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine, Azerbaijan received applications from more than 10 European countries with a request to either increase or start gas supplies to Europe, said President Ilham Aliyev on November 25 at the International Conference along the Middle Corridor: Geopolitics, Security and Economics “, reports the official website of the head of state.
“We are currently considering these applications. Now we do not have sufficient gas volumes to satisfy all of them. Therefore, we need to immediately start commercial negotiations, mainly with the countries that receive Azerbaijani gas, because pipelines are already functioning and exists necessary legal framework, ”the head of state noted.
Speaking about the plan for expanding the geography of supplies, the president of Azerbaijan noted:
“We fully support European initiatives for the construction of interconnectors. The opening of one of them – Greece -Bolgaria – occurred in October in Sofia, where I was present. The second of them will be ready between Bulgaria and Serbia next year. We will also actively work with the Government of Albania on investment in the Albania gas distribution network, since such a network does not exist in the country. Albania is only a transit country. But they also need gas to satisfy local needs. There is also a project on the construction of an ionic-adiatic pipeline that will cover three Balkan countries. And for this it is necessary to connect all participants into this process so that they take the necessary steps in this direction. “
