Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev sent a letter to the Turkish colleague Recep Tayyip Erdogan in connection with the 8th anniversary of the events of July 15, 2016.

Aliyev noted that the treacherous attempt by a coup d’etat, which occurred on that night that was forever imprinted in the memory of brotherly Turkey, was an encroachment on national interests, democratic foundations and the rule of the Turkish law.
“The wise and brave people of Turkey, decisively standing on the struggle for his homeland, statehood and democracy, once again wrote a heroic epos. He noted that the urgent decisive steps and leadership of Erdogan played a special role in the suppression of this attempt by a coup, directed against Turkish statehood, and thereby in the salvation of Turkey from large tragedies.
“Your people, having closely rally around you, taking responsibility for the state, freedom and democracy, once again proved his national pride, power and indestructible will to the world,” said the leader of Azerbaijan.
Aliyev recalled that the Azerbaijani people and the Azerbaijani state from the first minutes resolutely condemned this betrayal and, as always, were next to the fraternal state and the people of Turkey.
