Aliyev: Timely Closure Of Airspace And Coordination Of Aircraft And Civilian Services Could Prevent Tragedy

If measures were taken in a timely manner to close the airspace of Russia in the Grozny city, if all the rules of ground services were met, as well as coordination between the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and civil services, this tragedy would not have happened.

This was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev at a meeting with family members of the deceased crew of the passenger aircraft Embraer 190 Azerbaijan Airlines, which crashed when performing the Baku-Groze flight and surviving flight attendants.

The president noted that in the city of Grozny the operation “Carpet” to close the airspace was announced after the aircraft was fired from the ground.

“This once again shows that there are very serious issues that have the composition of the crime. Usually, in case of danger in the airspace of any country, it is immediately closed. It operates in all countries and has different names. In Russia, this is called the operation “Carpet”.

Aliyev noted that about 10 days before the plane crash occurred, a similar incident occurred near the city of Grozny.
