Aliyev: We Hope That Initiative Of Azerbaijan In Peace Negotiations Will Lead To Signing Of Peace Treaty

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that he hopes that the initiative of Baku in peace negotiations will lead to the signing of a peace treaty with Yerevan.

“We can achieve peace in the South Caucasus. We see that this is possible during the peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” the head of state said during his speech at the session “The role of Azerbaijan in the new geopolitical conditions” at the Chernobbio International Forum.

He emphasized that approximately 80 percent of the text of the peace treaty has already been agreed.

“We have already achieved the process of delimitation of borders, even demarcation. Yes, this is the first small step – only a thirteenth -kilometer section of the border with Armenia with a total length of thousands of kilometers. However, this is a step in the right direction. We hope that this initiative of Azerbaijan is peaceful in peaceful Negotiations will lead to the signing of a peace treaty, ”said Aliyev.

The head of state drew attention to the fact that the restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan has become the main factor not only in the Caucasus, but also in wider geography.

The President recalled that this occupation continued, despite the decisions of international organizations, including the presence of four resolutions of the UN Security Council, which were supposed to be implemented.

The president also said that a special group created under the auspices of the OSCE to resolve this issue has not achieved absolutely no results over the past 28 years.

The head of state also noted that energy supply is a visual demonstration that the national security of countries is closely related to the energy.

He emphasized that the 3500-kilometer southern gas corridor, stretching from Azerbaijan to Italy, today ensures the energy security of ten countries.
