From January to December 2021, Azerbaijani airports served 2.93 million passengers. This indicator more than twice exceeded the statistics of 2020, when passenger air transportations were suspended due to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the abolition of international air traffic and the closure of borders. According to information, from the total number of passengers, 2.39 million passengers accounted for the share of international flights. Last year, the basic air carriers of Heydar Aliyev International Airport – Azal and Buta Airways transported 874.5 thousand and 250 thousand passengers, respectively. From the total number of international flights, Azal accounted for 38.2%, Buta Airways – 10.9%.
Aviation Industry is gradually restored, it is reported in the message, and now the direct flights of Heydar Aliyev International Airport will make 25 passenger airlines. Air carriers perform flights from Azerbaijan to Turkey, Russia, UAE, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Qatar, Israel, Germany, Great Britain, Kuwait and Kazakhstan.
675 people were serviced on flights performed at the first airport on the lands released from the occupation of Azerbaijan, the opening of which took place in 2021 in the city of Fizuli.
