Syrian ambassador to Moscow Bashar al-Jaafari requested asylum in Russia.

The Foreign Ministry of Syria on April 8 announced the decision to change the ambassador in Russia. He took this post in October 2022, even before the fall of the Bashar Assad regime in Syria.
The Foreign Ministry of Syria previously confirmed plans to change the ambassador in Moscow. Bashar al-Jaafari has held this post since 2022. He defended the Assad government, but after changing the regime in Syria, he changed his position.
On April 9, the diplomat received a notification of a review in Damascus, where he was offered a post in the administration.
