American psychiatrist Eric Goldsmith gives the court about the state of ex-president Mikhail Saakashvili, the Georgian Radio Liberty service.
At the request of the lawyer Shalva Khachapuridze, he spoke about the diagnosis and said that Saakashvili had rapidly progressive dementia and post -traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
“Mikhail Saakashvili has serious problems with memory. Like all patients with dementia, he remembers his past, his childhood, youth, career, but he has a terrible memory for current events. More precisely, he has problems with the assimilation of new information. He had a sharp mind, the ability to quickly think, but now his thinking is slow, sometimes confused.
Its appearance is sloppy, untidy … These are the symptoms of dementia. He is also weak, it is difficult for him to get up from his chair, it is difficult for him to walk, he loses weight, ”Eric Goldsmith told the court.
According to him, the dementia of Saakashvili belongs to the category of rapidly forwarding and non -specific dementia.
Answering questions, the psychiatrist admitted that the acquired dementia in question may be the result of the effects of mercury and arsenic.
According to the doctor, Mikhail Saakashvili also has post -traumatic stress disorder:
“When he sees prison staff, traumatic memories are returning to him. He has a high level of stress and anxiety. Some cognitive problems can be explained by post -traumatic stress disorder, for example, he hardly recalls his traumatic episodes, which is often found in patients with patients with patients. Such a disorder, ”said the psychiatrist.
Goldsmith also excluded that Mikhail Saakashvili simulated, referring to the tests.
“The tests determine whether he exaggerates his condition or simulates him. Mikhail Saakashvili was examined by many specialists, and we all came to one conclusion – he has a loss of memory”.
Goldsmith told the court that Mikhail Saakashvili should be released from prison, because every day he conducts is exposed to new injuries and post -traumatic stress disorder is progressing.
“It must be transferred to the clinic of the corresponding qualification in the West to evaluate other related diseases and prescribe adequate treatment,” the doctor said.
The Tbilisi City Court today considers the request for the release of Saakashvili from the verdict or delayed the sentence. Lawyers went to court on December 1. Mikhail Saakashvili attended the first part at the meeting remotely.
