The co -founder of the Swedish Amnesty Pere Westberg announced his withdrawal from the organization in protest against the report of the international human rights organization of Amnesty International in Ukraine. This was reported by the Swedish edition of Svenska Dagbladet.
Westberg admitted that this decision was extremely difficult for him, because he was a member of the organization for almost 60 years. The scandalous report on Ukraine made him leave “with a heavy heart.”
“I have been a member for almost 60 years. With a heavy heart, I, because of the statement by Amnesty regarding the war in Ukraine, ending my long and fruitful cooperation,” he said.
Westberg noted that Amnesty International was founded with the aim of promoting the release of political prisoners, but expanded the sphere of its activity and received a significant impact.
“From the very beginning, Amnesty has worked on the release of political prisoners all over the world. Since then, it gradually, sometimes dispute, expanded its mandate and has become another, of course, noticeable organization with unknown influence,” said Westberg.
According to the Swedish media, the ex-head of the Swedish office tried to justify the organization.
