American Kevin Strickland, who was in prison of 42 years for the triple murder, which he did not committed, was out of the prison of Missouri, after the judge recognized the evidence in his case erroneous.
BBC transfers that 62-year-old Strickland sentenced to life imprisonment in 1979, when he was only 18 years old.
In June 2021, the County Prosecutor Jackson Jin Peters Baker called on the court to revise his case due to the insolvency of evidence. Strickland held in prison the longest time on unfair accusation of the entire history of the state. According to local laws, compensation for the former prisoners is only in the event that they were justified using DNA analysis, and not testimony of witnesses, as in the case of Strickland.
Strickland lawyer decided to open the collection of donations at one of the funding sites to help him with household expenses after entering the prison. Over 27 thousand people responded to the call.
In 1979, Strickland sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of early liberation for 50 years on charges of a cruel attack in Kansas City. In April 1978, four attackers broke into a residential building and shot three young people in it. The fourth victim of the attack – the 20-year-old Cynthia Douglas – avoided death, pretending to be killed. Strickland was in the field of view of the police after his possible involvement of investigators was indicated by the boyfriend of the Sister of Cyntia Douglas. Douglas herself then chose Strickland out of several suspects shown by the police.
But, as he subsequently emphasized Douglas, pressure was put in the police. Strickland himself told the police that during the attack was at home and watched TV. There were no physical evidence that was not found.
