In the National Assembly of Armenia, discussions on the candidate of the human rights defender (ombudsman) began. The ruling party “Civil Agreement” nominated the candidacy of Christine Grigoryan to this post, Armenia Today reports.
Vedomir Vardanyan who submitted the candidacy of Grigoryan from the Fraction “Civil Agreement”, Vladimir Vardanyan noted that it has almost 12-year professional work experience, mainly in government agencies. On July 3, 2019, Grigoryan was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice of Armenia, April 6, 2021 – First Deputy Minister of Justice.
“as the Deputy Minister of Justice, she mainly dealt with issues related to international cooperation, in particular the coordination of the international legal field regarding the fulfillment of the commitments of Armenia in the field of human rights,” said Vardanyan.
The term of office of the current Ombudsman Arman Tatokan expires in February of this year, and the authorities do not intend to re-elect. In December last year, Tataryan made a sharp criticism of the ruling party “Civil Agreement” and accused Prime Minister Nikola Pashinyan in a pressure on the ombudsman using various methods.
