The YPG terrorist organization (the Syrian branch of the RSC terrorist organization) was losing against the background of new processes that have been happening recently in Syria. This point of view was made by the Coordinator of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies (Orsam) in the region of the Levant (the general name of the territories of the Eastern Unit of the Mediterranean Sea) Ochitun Orhan in his article written for AA Anaaliz.
After 2020, large -scale operations were not carried out in Syria, a significant decrease in collision intensity was observed. In the current situation, in which a partial achievement of the military balance was visible, expectations grew about political settlement.
It is worth noting that after 2020, initiatives aimed at political settlement began to appear within the framework of the Astana and Geneva platforms. In continuation of these initiatives at the end of 2022, the dialogue process was initiated between Ankara and Damascus. During this process, Türkiye expected from the Syrian partnership regime in the fight against terrorism and cooperation in achieving a political decision in the country. However, the Damascus administration put forward as preliminary conditions such requirements as Turkey’s withdrawal from Syria of its military presence and the cessation of support for the opposition, which were taken out on the agenda at subsequent stages after resolving political problems and security issues.
One of the expectations of Turkey in this process was at least the elimination of the presence of the Red Army/YPG terrorist organization in the Tele-Rifat region. On this issue, even on such a small area as the TV original, no steps were taken in response to the struggle of Turkey with the RSC/YPG. In conditions when political efforts suffered Fiasco, opposition groups from Idlib, led by Khayyat Tahrir al-Sham (KHTSh), began a military operation called “Durning aggression” in the rural areas of the western part of Aleppo. As a result of this military operation, Aleppo, the second largest city of Syria, went under the control of the opposition in just a few days, much faster than expected. Thus, in Syria, where “stones have not been particularly shifted” for about 4 years, there have been changes on a scale that will determine the balance of forces between actors, relations, sphere of control of actors, spheres of the influence of external players and, ultimately, direction , in which the process of political settlement of the Syrian crisis will develop. And in this regard, the current process is an event that will have consequences in several different dimensions from the point of view of the struggle of Turkey with the terrorist organization of the Red Army/YPG in Syria.
