An ancient tombstone stela, stolen from the ancient city of Zevgma in the Turkish province of Gaziantep, returned to Turkey from Italy.
The Minister of Culture and Tourism of Turkey Mehmet Nuri Ersa took part in the transmission ceremony of the artifact.
The event was held at the Mosaic Museum “Zeugma” in Gaziantep.
Turning to those present, Minister Ersa recalled that the Gaziantep province was in the zone of destructive earthquakes that fell upon Turkey in February this year.
Touching the history of the ancient city. He said that Zevgma in translation from the ancient Greek language means “bridge”.
Zevgma was founded around 300 BC. , and the golden age of the ancient city fell on the Roman period, he noted.
The head of the department said that over the past 20 years, the Turkish authorities have ensured the return of 12 016 abducted works of art.
