In May, the sales of new cars in Belarus fell in an annual dimension by 83%, up to 629 pieces, the Belarusian Association (BAA) said.
It is noted that by April, sales fell by 30%. From January to May 2022, 10.6 thousand new cars were sold in Belarus, which is 41% less than the same period last year. “Such a result is associated with a significant change in prices for most popular models, as well as a worsening of lending conditions,” Baa said in Baa.
They explained that in recent years more than 70% of the sales of the Belarusian market accounted for cars produced in Russia. Since March this year, manufacturers increased shipping prices from 40% to 70%. Later, the course of the Russian ruble was strengthened, which led to a total increase in prices for Belarusian dealers by almost half.
According to the association, this trend is characteristic not only for Belarus, but also for the automobile markets of Russia and Kazakhstan. Association experts believe that the situation will worsen. “Given the fact that most of the automobile plants in Russia stopped production, buyers in Belarus may encounter a shortage of cars in the coming months,” the message says.
Earlier, the Committee of Automobile Producers of the European Business Association (AEB) calculated that sales of new cars and light commercial (LCV) cars in Russia fell in April 2022 by 83.5% in annual comparison (after a drop in 78.5% in April and 62.9% in March) up to 24.268 thousand units. In January -May of this year, sales were reduced by 52% in annual comparison – to 318.114 thousand cars
