The ruling party of Sweden on May 15 will decide on membership in NATO. It is expected that Finland President Sauli Ninisto will announce his support for the application this week. On May 12, Niniste’s statement will provoke, most likely, several feverish weeks, during which it will be possible to redraw the Northern European Safety map.
In Sweden, the Secretary of the Social Democratic Party Tobias Baudin informed the Swedish public radio SR that the decision has not yet been made. “On May 15, a decision will be made, the party leadership will present its position,” he said.
Social Democrats – the largest party in Sweden over the past 100 years – this week will hold three party meetings in digital format to find out the opinions of members about joining NATO until the final decision of the leadership.
