A recent statement by the UN Security Council regarding the construction of a road in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRK) “is completely torn from realities in the field.” This is stated in the statement of the Foreign Ministry of Turkey, widespread on Tuesday.
The department noted that such statements by the UN Security Council aggravate the situation, instead of making a positive contribution to the settlement of the current situation.
“The wording used in relation to events on August 18, distorts facts and incorrectly reflects events,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said.
The department emphasized that Ankara fully supports the Med TRSK statement on this issue.
“Construction of the Pile-Yigitler road is a humanitarian project, the purpose of which is to facilitate the direct access of the citizens of the TRK living in the village of Pilya to their homeland,” the Foreign Ministry explained.
The statement notes that the notification of road works was made in advance. “The cause of tension was the physical intervention of the UN military peacekeeping forces in Cyprus (Saw) in the course of road works,” the department added.
The ministry indicated that peacekeeping forces made an unlawful attempt to prevent the construction of the road, putting both their own personnel and workers participating in construction work.
The Foreign Ministry expressed regret that, as a result of “irresponsible actions” from the Russian Federation, four employees of this structure and eight TRK citizens suffered. In the diplomatic unity they wished the wounded speedy recovery.
“We believe that the call to the” demolition of all unauthorized buildings “contained in the UN Security Council’s statement is also addressed to the Cyprus-Greek side, which for many years built the Larnak-Dikelia-Napa road, passing through the territory of Cypriots -Tarok in the buffer zone and many other buildings that violate the buffer zone, “the statement said.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry called for a sucker to show an equal attitude towards both sides on the island, adhering to the principle of impartiality in their actions.
