Armenian deputy in Russia was deprived of mandate after sentence

Deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region of Russia at a meeting by a majority vote deprived of the mandate of Arman Arakelyan, whom the court sentenced to 9 years in a maximum security colony for giving a bribe.

This was reported to the Russian media in the press service of the regional parliament.

“He wrote a statement about the reservation of authority ahead of schedule. The application was dated February 17. Deputies of the Legislative Assembly at the meeting today by a majority vote were deprived of his mandate,” the press service said.

On February 17, the Central District Court of Chelyabinsk sentenced Arakelyan to 9 years in a maximum security colony and a fine of 6.5 million rubles, finding guilty under Art. 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Giving bribes”).

The crime was identified by employees of the Office of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Chelyabinsk Region, who carried out operational support in the criminal case. According to investigators, in 2019, the deputy, heading the company, together with the accomplices, gave a bribe in the amount of more than 185 thousand rubles ($ 2.47 thousand) to two employees of the organization that controlled the conduct of road work.

The bribe was transmitted that the controlling persons did not take any measures for identified violations.
