Armenian Nuclear Power Plant Was Disconnected From Country’s Energy System Due

Armenian nuclear power plants around 22:55 August 30 was disconnected from the country’s energy system. It is reported by News.am with reference to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia.

The reason for the stop was a lightning strike, as a result of which the station security systems transferred the station to a safe stop mode. At the moment, the NPP team is busy resting the station, the report said.

Armenian nuclear power plant – an atomic electric station, built between 1969 to 1977 in the territory of the Armenian SSR near the city of Metsamor. The station, which is one of the main sources of electricity in the country, consists of two power units with reactors of the VVER-440 type. The share of the Armenian nuclear power plant in the total electricity production in the republic is about 40%.
