The National Assembly of Armenia in the second and final reading approved amendments to the Electoral Code, which implies the refusal of the “rating” system. This means that elections will only pass on party lists, reports Sputnik-Armenia.
“For” 82 deputies voted. The bill was considered in an accelerated order.
It is noted that the opposition “enlightened Armenia” made a sharp criticism, stating that from this moment the legitimacy of the elections was questioned.
The second opposition party – “prosperous Armenia” – and boycotted the meeting at all.
On March 18, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that on June 20, extraordinary parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia. After this statement, representatives of the current authorities reported that they want to go to the elections with the new electoral code, which should be based only on the proportional electoral system.
