Asian Bank For Development Will Submit $ 125 Million To Uzbekistan For Water Sector Reform

Asian Development Bank (ABR) approved the provision of a loan of Uzbekistan in the amount of $ 125 million to support reform in the field of water resources.

The funds will be aimed at increasing water safety, modernizing water supply and improving the stability of the sector in conditions of climate change, the Uzbek state media reports.

The project focused on the introduction of intelligent water management systems will increase the efficiency of infrastructure, optimize the use of water and energy resources, as well as strengthen the personnel potential of the national water supply enterprise.

It is expected that the corresponding measures will not only provide more reliable water supply, but also help to soften the consequences of climatic changes.

“Water resources of Uzbekistan are under a serious threat due to climate change and irrational use,” said Lao-Araya, director of the Permanent Representative Office of Abnistan in Uzbekistan,

According to her, the project involves the introduction of digital technologies for managing water resources, which will lead to a reduction in energy consumption, an increase in operating efficiency and a decrease in the country’s carbon trace.

Financing of the ABR will allow the company “Unsuvtayminot” and its regional divisions to complete the installation of water consumption systems and telemetry throughout the country.

In addition, as part of the project, a comprehensive inventory of existing water supply and sanitation facilities will be carried out, including about four million clients.

It is also planned to launch an integrated digital platform for managing utilities, which will improve accounting, control and work of client centers. The introduction of new technologies will increase the transparency of financial statements and ensure compliance with international standards.

The project is aimed at reducing operating costs, improving the efficiency of personnel and improving the quality of the services provided.

This year marks 30 years of partnership between Uzbekistan and Abr. Since the country entered the bank in 1995, ABR has provided her with funding in the amount of $ 14.3 billion, including loans, grants and technical assistance.
