The current leader of Syria Bashar Asar for the fourth time won the presidential elections to the country, which took place on Wednesday, on May 26. This was announced by the chairman of Parliament Hammud Sabag during a press conference on Al Ekhbariya TV channel.
According to Sabaga, Assad received support for 95.1 percent of voters at 78 percent. In voting, over 14 million citizens took part, which showed “high consciousness that exceeded all expectations.”
In May, the Higher Constitutional Court of Syria made it possible for the elections of three people: the current president of the country of Bashar Assad, Secretary General of the Opposition Democratic Front of Makhmud Ahmad Meria and a member of the Socialist Unionist Party, the former Minister of People’s Assembrants Abdullah Sallyum Abdullah. A total of 51 applications for participation in this campaign were filed; 48 of them are rejected because of the “non-compliance with constitutional and legal norms.”
