Syrian leader Bashar Assad nominated his candidacy for participation in the presidential election, becoming the sixth candidate, said the head of the People’s Council of SAR (parliament) Hammud Sabbagh at the Council meeting.
“The head of the People’s Council announced the notification of the Council from the Supreme Constitutional Court on the registration of the request of Bashar Hafez Assad to the position of President of the Republic. He became a sixth candidate applying for participation in the presidential election,” the Syrian State Agency writes, RIA reports “News”.
Officially, presidential elections will be held in Syria on May 26. From April 19, the registration of candidates began, six candidates already filed their applications, including one woman. Take part in the race for the presidential chair will be those candidates who will receive in the upcoming voting of Parliament at least 35 votes of deputies.
