Syria President Bashar Assad visited Moscow on a visit, on the eve of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin met with him, reported on the Kremlin website.
At the beginning of the meeting, Putin congratulated Assad with the past birthday and the victory in the presidential election in Syria. According to the President of the Russian Federation, the election results testify to the confidence of the Syrians to Assad “and, despite all the complexities of previous years and the tragedies of the previous years, they still associate the process of recovery and return to normal life.”
Putin called the main problem of Syria to preserve there foreign military presence without the permission of the UN and the Syrian authorities. This, in his opinion, “does not make it possible to take maximum efforts to consolidate the country and to move along the path of its recovery by such pace, which would be possible if the whole territory was controlled by the legal government.”
Also, the Russian president acknowledged that the foci of terrorism remains in Syria, which put pressure on civilians. He added that the joint efforts of Russia and Syria to restore peaceful activities “bring a certain result.”
Assad in turn stated that the political processes on the normalization of the situation in Syria stopped, which was aware of the destructive actions of “certain states”. “I would like to note the fact that the political processes that we conducted approximately how three years have stopped. It has, of course, certain reasons. There are certain states that in every way destructively influence the possibility of political processes. There are other factors But we perfectly understand them and try to do everything possible to solve these topical problems, “said Assad at a meeting with Putin.
He recalled that a number of states were imposed on Syria sanctions and described them as “anti-human, anti-state, anti-elegitimate”.
Assad also expressed the gratitude of the Russian Foreign Ministry “At the international platform, in order to reveal the spread of terrorism in order to those states that support him and for themselves set the goal to skillfully use terrorism to implement their own tasks.”
The last time the Presidents of Russia and Syria met on January 7, 2020 in Damascus, when Putin and Assad visited the Russian team point in Syria.
