Assange to appeal court decision

The founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange filed a petition about appealing the decision of the court for extradition in the United States, he told his bride Stella Morris in Twitter, RIA Novosti reports.

“This morning at 11:05 pm, Julian Assange filed a permission to appeal against a high court decision in the Supreme Court that he could be extradited in the United States,” she wrote.

According to Morris, the petition of Assange about permission to file an appeal to the Supreme Court is currently being considered by the judges of the High Court. It is not known how much time will take the decision-making, but it is expected that this will happen before the third week of January.

US authorities accuse Julian Assange in espionage and hacking computers due to publication on the website of WikiLeaks American service documents on wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and diplomatic telegrams 2010-2011. According to investigators, Assange was an accomplice of the defense analyst Chelsea Manning, who broke the law on espionage, hacked computers and published materials that could harm the US intelligence services. In case of extradition, it faces up to 175 years of imprisonment. In January 2021, the British court refused the United States in the issuance of Assange. He motivated his decision with fears for the mental health of the convict. Later, the US Department of Justice filed an appeal to this decision, insisting on the extradition of the founder of WikiLeaks. High Court of London satisfied the appeal on December 10, 2021.
