Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Karen Donfried, from June 14 to this year, will perform a tour of the South Caucasus. As Interfax reports, this was reported in the State Department of the United States.
“Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasia, Karen Donfried, will go to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia from June 14 to 19 to emphasize the US commitment to peace, democracy and prosperity in the Southern Caucasus region,” the statement said.
It notes that Donfried will emphasize the support of the United States of the sovereignty and independence of the countries of the region, “emphasizing the right of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia to determine its own path.”
The US State Department continued that it will also emphasize Washington’s readiness to help establish a strong world in the South Caucasus, including by supporting the development of political, economic and interpersonal ties throughout the region.
According to the foreign policy, Donfried will visit Baku on June 15-16, where he will meet with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, other government officials and representatives of civil society.
During the visit, the assistant Secretary of State will emphasize “The US Support for diplomatic efforts between Azerbaijan and Armenia, aimed at achieving a strong world, will thank Azerbaijan for humanitarian support of Ukraine and highlight partnerships in ensuring European energy security, combating transnational threats, supporting basic freedoms and development bilateral trade and investment, ”the statement said.
