In Astana, an exhibition was opened on the topic: “The lands of Kazakhstan on the maps of the world”, where for the first time the centuries -old historical maps are exhibited.
The exposition that opened in the Kazakhstan National Museum included 26 previously not exhibited historical maps.
on these cards printed by European and Russian military topographers in the period from the XVI to the XIX century, you can get information about how administrative borders were formed in the open spaces of Central Asia and modern Kazakhstan.
In an interview with Anadolu, a researcher at the Kazakhstan National Museum Ernur Rakhimov said that the exhibition shows cards covering the period from the Kazakh Khanate (the first large state founded by Kazakhs) to the Soviet Union. >
According to the researcher, most of the presented cards are of Western origin.
“On these maps, we can see how the administrative boundaries of our country were formed from the 16th to the XIX century, the names of the regions, as well as get visual information about the daily lifestyle of the residents of the regions,” said Rakhimov.
The researcher noted that the lands of Kazakhstan in various periods were mentioned on maps under different names. “To determine the borders of our country on the maps, names such as Scythia (state formations founded by Scythians), Osakia (Kazakh Khanate), Kazakh Horde, Tartaria (Great Land), Turkestan and Turan were used,” Rakhimov noted.
Visitors will be able to visit the exhibition until April 26th.
