In Kazakhstan, July 6 celebrates the state holiday – the day of the capital.
This year, the main city of the Central Asian country celebrates the 25th anniversary.
The holiday has an important historical and cultural significance for the people and is a symbol of the achievements of Kazakhstan. At the state level, this holiday has been celebrated since 2009.
The corresponding government decree was adopted on July 6, 1996, and on October 20, 1997, the presidential decree was published on the announcement of Akmola to the capital of Kazakhstan on December 10 of the same year.
Less than Akmola later, it was renamed Astana, which means “capital” from the Kazakh language, and in 2019 – to Nur Sultan. The transfer of the capital has become a turning point in the history of sovereign Kazakhstan.
Immediately after the transfer of the capital, a lot of work began in the city to reconstruct existing and the construction of new buildings.
Now it’s hard to imagine, but even 25-30 years ago in this city there were only a few ten-story buildings. Over the years, the appearance of the city has changed beyond recognition.
Today, Astana is recognized by the political, administrative, economic, business and tourist center of Kazakhstan, is one of the dynamically developing capitals of the world.
Over its 25-year history, the borders of Astana have grown three times, and the population increased four times. The average age of the city’s inhabitants is 30 years. The population of the capital is 1.3 million. According to forecasts, by 2030 the population of Astana will exceed 2 million

The city combines eastern and western architectural styles with traditional Kazakh motives, which attracts the attention of both local and foreign tourists.
The symbol of Astana, the Baiterek Tower, amazes with its interesting architecture, which is the “Tree of Life”.
The tower designed by the Kazakhstani architect Akmirza Rustembekov, inspired by the story of Phoenix, has a height of 97 meters and consists of a three -story golden ball covered with glass.
Despite its huge egg-shaped weight, the globe offers its visitors a 360-degree review of Astana even in windy weather.
