Athletes may resolve to use marijuana

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will consider revising the status of cannabis in the list of substances prohibited for athletes after requests from a number of interested parties.

“After receiving requests from a number of stakeholders, the WADA Executive Committee approved the decision of the expert advice to proceed with the scientific consideration of the status of cannabis in 2022,” the Vada statement said.

There also clarified that Clanabis competitions are prohibited, and the prohibition will continue in 2022, reports France 24 TV channel.

Previously, a 21-year-old American runner Sha’acharry Richardson was disqualified for the use of Cannabis. Because of this, she missed the Olympics in Tokyo, although it was expected that the American sprint star would become one of the holders of medals after she demonstrated a series of brilliant 100 meter races at the beginning of the season. Disqualification Richardson led to the resumption of the discussion on the exception of marijuana from the list of substances prohibited for athletes. Many athletes criticized this rule as outdated and unnecessary. Among those who supported calls for the revision of the status of cannabis was the head of the World Athletic Association Sebastian Cow.
