Atomic Energy Covered 9% Of Global Demand For Electricity

Atomic energy provided 9% of the global demand for electricity.

as follows from the data of the report on the global nuclear energy for 2024, analyzed by Anadol, the production of electricity at nuclear power plants last year increased by 58 teravat hours compared to the previous year.

The report notes that the performance of atomic energy is characterized as “excellent”, and the main factor in production growth was the re-commissioning of French reactors with a total capacity of 42 teravatt hours after planned repairs.

According to the report, atomic energy is considered the most reliable source of electricity in the world, ensuring stability of supplies.

Over the past 20 years, the number of nuclear reactors in the world has increased by 80%, and nuclear power plants in 2023 have avoided emissions of 2.1 billion tons of carbon dioxide.

Asia, the leader in the production of atomic energy was, in particular, China, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea and Pakistan.

Produced at the nuclear power plants 2600 teravat hours of electricity last year covered 9% of world demand.

At the same time, the installed atomic energy capacity last year decreased by 1 gigavatts to 392 gigavatts.

The number of reactors remained unchanged and amounted to 437 units.

The report also mentioned Turkish projects in the field of nuclear energy. It is noted that the construction of Akkui NPP should be completed by 2025-2028. In addition, it is reported that Turkey is negotiating with Russia, China and South Korea on the construction of the second and third nuclear power plants, as well as with the USA and the UK on the construction of small modular reactors.
