Ganzhinsky Court of Appeal tightened the verdict of Ali Shamiev, known as the nickname “Göl Ali”, accused of murder in Tovuza, lawyer and former chairman of the district court Firudin Alekperli.
According to Haqqin.az, according to the decision of the Ganjin Court of serious crimes, Shamiev was sentenced to 10 years and 6 months in prison. The Ganzhinsky Court of Appeal upheld the sentence. However, the prosecutor did not agree with the verdict filed a cassation appeal.
At a meeting of the Supreme Court, chaired by Judge Farhad Kerimov, the prosecutor announced the impossibility of applying Article 62 (imposing a less strict punishment) of the Criminal Code in connection with aggravating circumstances in the actions of the convict. It is noted that, despite this, the Ganzhinsky court for serious crimes sentenced Shamiev to 10 years and 6 months in prison. Ganzhinsky Court of Appeal upheld the sentence.
The Supreme Court recognized the prosecutor’s complaint justified and canceled the decision against Ali Shamiev. The criminal case was returned to the Ganzhinsky Court of Appeal for a second investigation. The Ganzhinsky Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Elchin Khasmamedov, increased the sentence of Shamiev by one year. He was sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison.
Recall, the murder occurred on the morning of September 13, 2019 at the victim’s office. So, Ali Shamiev, who had been engaged in entrepreneurship in Russia for many years, and then in the region, appeared at the office of Alekperli and shot him several times. The wounded Alekperley was taken to the hospital, but the doctors could not save him. In his initial testimony, Shamiev, the actual owner of a recreation area “Su Syasi” in the village of Yanygly, Tovuzsky District, said that the lawyer was blackmailing him and demanded 10 thousand manat from him in exchange for the termination of numerous complaints to the relevant authorities.
Firudin Alekperli in 1993-1995 was the chairman of the Tovuzsky District Court. He was later removed from his post and deprived of the powers of a people’s judge. Until the day of the murder, he worked as a lawyer in the Tovuz district.
