Austria Foreign Ministry opposed the idea of issuing Schengen visas to Russian citizens, the Austrian media reports with reference to the statement of the country’s foreign policy.
“The ban on the issuance of visas to Russians would blocked civil society and members of the opposition, as well as, for example, relatives of the Austrians from the EU,” the ministry said.

The department also called the ban on the issuance of visas counterproductive for the fight against misinformation in Russia.
