Austria has developed a bill that provides for monitoring applications for messaging, such as WhatsApp and Telegram.
The draft document on monitoring applications, which has been discussed in the country for many years, was sent to the parliamentary subcommittee.
Austrian Minister of Internal Affairs Gerhard Carner informed the press about decisions adopted on the first day of the two -day work of the government with the participation of members of the Council of Ministers and officials of three parties, during which issues such as security and economics were discussed.
Carner expressed satisfaction by the fact that the first bill to monitor messages to exchange in order to prevent a possible terrorist attack or attack on the structure is submitted for consideration by a parliamentary subcommittee.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that in situations related to terrorism, national threat and espionage, control will be carried out with the permission of the judge and under the supervision of the official responsible for protecting personal data. This situation will not affect ordinary citizens, ”he explained.
Monitoring will not be massive and will be used only in some cases, the number of which will not exceed 25-30 per year, ”Carner assured.
The bill will be considered by the parliamentary subcommittee for about eight weeks, and the decision will most likely be implemented in the summer months, ”he added.
Austria authorities, in particular, power structures, for a long time have sought to introduce control over messages to exchange messages. However, various civil society organizations opposed this proposal on the grounds that it would limit the protection of personal data and freedom of citizens.
