In Azerbaijan on November 9, the Day of the State Flag is celebrated.

The state flag is a rectangular panel consisting of three horizontally located colored stripes of three in the width of the width: the upper – blue, medium – red and lower – green. On both sides of the flag in the middle of the red strip there are a crescent and an eight -pointed white star.
The modern state flag of Azerbaijan was established on November 9, 1918 at a meeting of the Government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (Adr). After the fall of the ADR and the arrival of Soviet power, on April 28, 1920, they refused the tricolor flag.
After the independence of the country on February 5, 1991, the Supreme Council of Azerbaijan declared a tricolor with an eight -pointed star and a crescent state flag of the Azerbaijan Republic.
The author of the formula “Turkism, Islamism and modernity”, which is expressed in three colors of the state flag of independent Azerbaijan and which covered the principle of three foundations of our national ideology at the beginning of the twentieth century, is an outstanding Azerbaijani thinker Ali Bek Huseynzade.
On November 17, 2009, President Ilham Aliyev signed an order “On the establishment of the State Flag Day of the Azerbaijan Republic”, and on December 4 of the same year, Milli Majlis (Parliament) officially approved on November 9 as the Day of the State Flag.
