The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reacted to the UN Fund in the field of population (UNFPA) about the Lachin road.
“The statement of the UN Population Fund of January 24 on the situation around the Lachinsky road, which is a biased, does not reflect the truth and is not related to the organization’s mandate, is surprising and regret,” the commentary published on the official website of the AR Foreign Ministry.
The department noted that the UN Foundation in the field of population did not comment on the plight of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijani families, who, as a result of military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan, have been forced to leave their homes for years, lived in tent towns abandoned wagons, abandoned wagons. deprived of the right to receive medical care, education and other rights.
“peaceful protests on the Lachinsky road, which is a sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, demanding to prevent the illegal operation of the natural resources of Azerbaijan, the transportation of these resources to Armenia, as well as the abuse of the Lachin road, which is intended only for humanitarian purposes, are the legal right of the Azerbaijani people . It is unacceptable that the Population Fund to make a statement on the legitimate protests of the Azerbaijanis, ”the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
The commentary states that illegal activities in the territories of Azerbaijan, where the Armenian population lives compactly, is a threat to the national security of Azerbaijan, and such illegal activities must be put an end.
“In this regard, in accordance with the tripartite statement of November 10, 2020, the Republic of Azerbaijan guarantees the safety of the movement of citizens, vehicles and goods in both directions along the Lachinsky road. The security guarantee also includes the prevention of unlawful use of the Lachinsky road,” – noted in the department.
“As stated in the statements of the AR Foreign Ministry over the past month, the protesters do not interfere with the movement of transport and residents along the Lachinsky road, and the statements that the protests caused the” humanitarian catastrophe “are unfounded. Since the start of protests along the Lachinsky road, we traveled more 1,000 cars with basic necessities, medicines, etc. The Azerbaijani government has also repeatedly stated that it was ready to quickly cover all the humanitarian needs that Armenian residents may encounter. Despite all this, persons who pretend to be “leaders” of Armenian residents continue Use the local population as a shield and prevent its freedom of movement to continue their illegal activity, ”the commentary emphasizes.
The Foreign Ministry called on the UN Foundation in the field of population to be impartial and refrain from actions and statements that would damage the organization’s reputation.
