Azerbaijani people made a significant contribution to the achievement of this victory. More than 600 thousand sons and daughters of Azerbaijan took part in the war, more than half of them died or went missing in regions of hostilities. For the courage shown during the war years, 123 citizens of Azerbaijan were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, more than 170 thousand soldiers and officers were awarded various orders and medals. The heroic sons of our people took an active part in the liberation of many countries from fascism.
The contribution of Azerbaijan to victory through fuel supply. During the war of 1941-1945, Azerbaijan accounted for more than 70 percent of oil, 80 percent of gasoline and 90 percent of motor oils produced in the Soviet Union. The vast majority of tanks and aircraft of the Soviet Army, which played a decisive role in achieving victory over fascism in the Second World War, was set in a fuel that was supplied by Baku oil industry workers.
Azerbaijani people demonstrated invaluable labor exploits in the rear, selflessly worked day and night to meet the needs of the army. Our people sent more than seven tons of donated blood to the front, especially distinguished himself in the supply of food and warm clothing in the supply of the fighting army. Azerbaijan mobilized all his resources as much as possible in the name of victory over fascism.
