In Azerbaijan, mourning events were held on the anniversary of the death of the grandson of the prophet Muhammad – Imam Hussein and his 72 associates.
Residents of the capital and areas of Azerbaijan in the morning, flocked in the mosque, where they read the Qur’an and ascended prayers for the rest of the souls of Imam and its associates.
On the day of Ashura, citizens took part in the voluntary donation of donor blood. Participants in events organized as part of Ashura distributed assistance to needing families.
Ashura (from the word “Auchar”, which means “ten”) – the 10th day of the Muslim New Year of Hijra and the day of the death of the grandson of the Prophet – Imam Hussein. Annually, Ashura’s Day is celebrated in many Muslim countries.
Muharram is considered in Azerbaijan a month of mourning, weddings and amusements this month is not held.
