Azerbaijan Police is serving at points released by Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh

Azerbaijani Police continues to be on duty at observation posts freed by Russian peacekeepers (RMK) temporarily located in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

Russian peacekeepers temporarily placed in the region in accordance with the declaration signed between Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia following the results of the Second Karabakh war on November 10, 2020, some observation points were released. Russian troops had about 25 observation points in the region.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in connection with the departure of the armed Armenian groups from the region after the anti -terrorist operation of Azerbaijan on September 19 decided to reduce observation points. Nine Russian observation posts in Askuransky, Agderinsky and Shushinsky districts were removed.

The Anadolu agency team visited the observation post at the entrance to Shushu, which is located on the Hangkendi Lachin road, known as the Lachin Corridor. At this place, after the departure of the Russian military, there was an empty booth of security and concrete barriers used to control the road. Now the Azerbaijani police will be on duty at this post.

The tripartite declaration says that the mandate of Russian troops in the region ends on November 10, 2025, but stipulates that this period may be reduced due to the new situation in the region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev would like to discuss with him the issue of the deadlines for the stay of Russian troops.
